Why go

  • Hands-on Makaronia tou Sklinitziou workshop
  • Free entry, open to all ages
  • Live music in a riverside setting

On Friday, 31 July 2026, the village quarter of Agios Theodoros in Larnaca hosts the opening night of the 12th Festival of Art and Culture — an evening dedicated entirely to the flavours of traditional Cypriot pasta and the living customs that surround them. The event takes place at the Exoraisméni Kíti Potamoú, a landscaped riverbed that transforms into an open-air cultural venue each summer. Doors open at 19:00 and admission is free for everyone.

The centrepiece of the evening is a hands-on workshop devoted to Makaronia tou Sklinitziou, a rustic handmade pasta with deep roots in Cypriot village life. Visitors are invited to watch, learn and taste as local artisans demonstrate the full process — from kneading and shaping the dough to baking and serving. Alongside this, there will be a preparation showcase and tasting of Hondrofid, another traditional dough-based speciality that rarely appears outside community festivals.

Beyond the food, the programme weaves in music and cultural performances that give the evening the warmth of a genuine Cypriot panayiri. This is an event for curious travellers, families, and anyone who wants to understand Cypriot culinary heritage not through a restaurant plate but through the hands of the people who have kept these recipes alive for generations. Free entry makes it one of the most accessible cultural evenings of the summer season in Larnaca.
