For the sixth consecutive year, the village of Tembria revives its most beloved community gathering. On Saturday, 12 September 2026, Plateia Tembrias comes alive from 16:30 with the sights, scents and sounds of a Cyprus that predates supermarkets and mass tourism — and entry is entirely free.
The food programme alone is worth the trip. Expect tembriotic katsures, warm palouses, trahanas, freshly baked village bread and tyropitakia, all prepared according to recipes that have been handed down through generations of local families. These are not reconstructions or approximations — they are the real thing, made by the people who grew up eating them.
Alongside the culinary tables, the festival shines a light on traditional occupations and crafts that have largely vanished from modern Cypriot life. Artisans work in full view of visitors, turning the square into an open-air living museum where the past feels immediate rather than distant. The atmosphere is relaxed and genuinely communal, welcoming families, food lovers, history enthusiasts and curious travellers alike.
Tembria sits within easy reach of Nicosia, making this an ideal late-afternoon excursion as the September heat begins to soften. Few events on the island offer this combination of authenticity, accessibility and zero cost.
