On 14 October, Limassol hosts the Cyprus premiere of «Zerkalo» («Mirror»), a psychological drama conceived and directed by Savva Savelyev, who also takes the stage alongside Pavel Tabakov in one of the production's central roles. The pairing of a celebrated young director and a prominent stage actor makes this an unusually charged theatrical encounter for the island.
The script draws on two seemingly incompatible literary sources: Heinrich Böll's short story «The Silence of Dr Murke» and Kurt Vonnegut's novel «Slaughterhouse-Five, or The Children's Crusade». From this unlikely dialogue between postwar German irony and American absurdism, Savelyev constructs a meditation on the secrets people carry, the weight of silence, and the long shadow cast by decisions made long ago.
This is not a production that offers resolution or reassurance. «Zerkalo» is designed to unsettle — to hold a mirror up to questions of personal responsibility and moral choice without flinching or softening the reflection. The atmosphere promises to be intimate and intense, the kind of theatre that stays with an audience well after the curtain falls.
