From 7 to 9 September 2026, Rialto Theatre in Limassol hosts EXPLICIT, a brand-new film festival dedicated to the kind of cinema that once made audiences uncomfortable — and, in doing so, permanently expanded what the art form could say and how it could say it. Three evenings, one agenda: to look again at the films that dared.
The festival's programme centres on directors whose reputations were built on exactly that willingness to push against convention. Whether through subject matter, form or sheer audacity, the works selected for EXPLICIT left a measurable mark on international film history. Screening them now, decades on, is an invitation to reconsider their impact with fresh eyes and a changed world as backdrop.
Rialto Theatre is an ideal host for this kind of event. One of Cyprus's most respected cultural venues, it brings an inherent seriousness to every screening — the architecture, the atmosphere and the audience all conspire to make watching a film feel like a genuine occasion rather than a casual evening out.
Full programme details and ticketing information are expected to be announced ahead of the festival. For anyone with a serious interest in cinema's more challenging corners, EXPLICIT is already shaping up to be the most compelling cultural date of autumn 2026 in Limassol.
